definition: founder + probably drinking a lot of coffee + an all too confusing name

Zadak is an award-winning multidisciplinary designer, musician, mentor + speaker. Born in Dallas (yeehaw), he’s now based in Central Connecticut. Zadak’s design practice stems back to 2013, since given a name, founding ZBDC in early 2024.

While he has a fascination for branding + identity design, Brooks is especially involved in the music world taking on projects ranging from album art + layout to marketing strategy for musicians and more. Through active listening and creative thinking, Zadak identifies client needs to deliver design solutions + strategy that align with their desired outcomes; outcomes that work.

Okay, now for some less professional/big worded paragraphs, aka storytime — what’s up, I’m Zadak or Z for short. Yes everything above is true, but I’m also just a guy sitting in his little home office (maybe we’ll get a ‘real’ office space one day, how cool would that be). I started designing in early high school, giving webcam photos of myself vampire teeth cause I really liked the Twilight books (still do - team edward all day, don’t forget it) and the rest was history. I started a band by the name of Boundaries when I was 15 and started touring the country sophomore year of high school (thanks mom). Being in the music world for a decade came with meeting lots of like-minded weirdos, spending lots of time in a van with a laptop and utilizing every bit of wifi I can find in the local truck stop/Taco Bell. I acquired my Bachelors in VCD (visual communication design) from the University of Hartford/Hartford Art School in 2021 and since then worked a few big boy jobs for some great people. Through this experience, I’ve gathered quite the eclectic client base in the freelance world, varying from multiple genres of artists + record labels alongside food + drink, cosmetics + the pharmaceutical world.

Today, I work in the comfort of my computer chair and company of my beautiful partner + TOH (the other half) of Zadak Brooks Design Co, Kalina Borca. I also speak at campuses + design events, mentor students and value the chance to educate where I can.

Hobbies of mine (and things we can yap about besides designs) include World of Warcraft + rhythm games, writing + performing music, coffee, learning random things for no reason (have you ever watched people forge swords? it’s fucking crazy) and rollerblading (it’s been a while, my legs are jello now).
